School Learning Gardens & Community Outreach

CaliFarmer teaches special courses in school gardens that enhance students’ education and sensory experience in a unique and unforgettable way. A curriculum-based school garden serves as a living laboratory and outdoor classroom for subjects across the curriculum right in our own schoolyard. In these gardens, students can learn and apply lessons from the California State curriculum. In addition, they have the opportunity to seed, weed, water and harvest crops. Children are taught about sustainability, local and organically grown food as well as environmental stewardship. Children are also taught good nutrition and healthy eating habits by having them plant their own food, watch it grow and then eat it.

“Andy is such a joy to work with in our school garden. The children learn so much from him and always leave with a smile on their face.”

“Andy has been the lead teacher and gardener for the Rancho Vista Learning Garden for many years.  To get to the point:  he is amazing! He has gone above and beyond to make our school garden educational, attractive, and productive.  His lessons are relevant, tied to grade level content standards, and engage the students in discovery and critical thinking.  Andy is a good-hearted person who has built incredible rapport with students, staff, and parents in our community.  He is always willing to go the extra mile to make our garden program shine!”
